Racers Take on Hunger in Our Community
The F.S.C.R.A. Super4 Late Model racing association is a small group of stock car racers that have a big mission, provide food and support for local communities they race at. Their motto “When We Race, Local Food Banks Win!” says it all. Not only do these speed junkies travel to race sites in Washington and Oregon, they spend their own time setting up food drives and support for the food banks in those areas. “A lot of the tracks we race at have been hit hard by the economy. If we can make a difference in those folk’s lives, it’s a win win situation for all of us” says club President Rob Golden.
The club was formed 49 Years ago as the Foreign Stock Car Racing Association. Way back then the race cars were Renault, Fiat, Saub, Metropolitan and of course Volkswagen. Now the club is dominated by Ford Fusions, Chevrolet Impalas, some very “wild looking” race cars, and of course a Volkswagen or two. The common trait is they all use 4 cylinder motors. But don’t be fooled, these race cars are very fast and exciting to watch. For more information on the F.S.C.R.A. Super 4’s Late Model racing association go to www.fscrasuper4s.net.
Their next race is at South Sound Speedway in Rochester on August 2nd. Golden adds “ Come join us in helping the fine folks at The Rochester Food Bank”. Like many other food banks, Rochester is very low on inventory. We take that as a challenge to try to fill them to the rafters with non-perishable food. We will have a collection site at the entrance to the Speedway all day Saturday. Bring the family and enjoy some of the best side by side racing on the west coast Saturday the 2nd of August. Even if you can’t make the race, stop by and drop off your donations and say Hi”.
